7 Tips for Finding the Best Wedding Shoes for Brides to be

Your wedding shoes are one aspect of your bridal attire where you can really incorporate your own unique style. But before you head off and buy the first gorgeous pair you see, take a moment to think about how they’ll work into your overall look. When it comes to finding the best wedding shoes, you have to consider how they’ll pair with your wedding dress (among other things).

“The shoe you choose for your wedding day should reflect your personal style and wedding decor and coordinate with  your dress and wedding colors. But they also need to be comfortable.

1. Think Statement Shoes for Short Wedding Dresses

When it comes to wedding shoes for a tea-length wedding dress, you can go all out with your shoes because they’re really going to be seen! “Short or tea-length gowns are a great opportunity to show off your individual shoe style!” says Gegeckas. “If you’re more daring, try a print or color. If your style is a little more retro, look for a pointy-toe pump or pair of kitten heels with coordinating accessories like short gloves or a fascinator.”

2. Incorporate Special Details into Wedding Shoes for an A-Line Dress or Ball Gown

“A voluminous skirt on an A-line or ball gown might mean your shoes won’t be visible to your guests, but you can still wear something that is extra special to you. If your gown has lace detail or pearls, you may want to incorporate that look into your shoes.”

3. Choose Strappy and Sexy Shoes for Mermaid Wedding Dresses

“Sheath, column, or mermaid gowns tend to focus on your curves, so you have the opportunity to wear a sexy strappy high-heeled sandal or embellished peep toe.”

4. Consider the Fabric of the Dress

It’s not all about the length of the dress. You have to think about the fabric as well. You don’t want anything damaging the dress. The best shoes to wear with lace wedding dresses, for example, are free from studs or jewels that can rip the ultra-delicate fabric.

5. Avoid Skinny Heels for Outdoor Weddings

Good advice for any gown: Nix a skinny heel for a beach or outdoor affair. The heel will sink into sand or grass. You’ll end up walking with wobble and getting your heels dirty.

6. Opt for Comfort

“Don’t buy a shoe that isn’t comfy when you initially try it on. After five-plus hours of standing in it, it won’t be any more comfortable. Once you’ve determined your comfort level (and pain threshold), think about your gown’s silhouette. As much as you might want to wear that six-inch hot-pink pump, if you’ve bought a ball gown, it’s going to be lost in tulle anyway.

7. Consider Changing Footwear After the Ceremony

If you still have your heart set on a gorgeous pair of wedding shoes that isn’t the most comfortable, consider wearing the uncomfortable but stunning pair for the ceremony and changing at the reception. “Buy yourself a second pair of shoes to change into at the reception. After dancing the night away, you’ll be thankful.” And comfort, of course, doesn’t have to mean boring. There are plenty of lovely flats and sandals that will look great.
